Having driven a long way to get there (from Wisconsin) for over 10 years, we know they have a vision about how the place should be and we appreciate the extraordinary effort which sometime also means firmness that Mike and Becky take to preserve the ambience of their little corner of paradise. They're very experienced in the hospitality business and know what it takes to assure the tranquillity that many of us seek in a unique place like this. — Guests from Wisconsin |
Casitas de Gila opened in June 1999. Whether you're looking to stay for one night or many nights, for bed and breakfast accommodation or for a vacation rental cabin with your own kitchen, you will find that we have everything you need to enjoy Southwestern New Mexico and the Silver City area at any time of year. The five guesthouses of Casitas de Gila feature southwestern adobe-style architecture. Each Casita has a kiva fireplace (seasonal operation) with a supply of firewood, ceiling vigas (round wooden beams), a portal (small, traditional porch), a fully-equipped kitchen, and a living room with dining area. Four of the Casitas have one bedroom and a bathroom with a tub/shower combination; the fifth Casita has two bedrooms with a handicap-accessible bathroom with shower. They are all fully furnished throughout, and each Casita has a telephone and wireless high-speed internet access. Each of our cozy little guesthouses is individually decorated with Mexican furniture, antiques, crafts. The walls of each Casita are decorated with artwork similar to what we offer in our Art Gallery. Each Casita has been developed around a theme:
Casita del Sol y la Luna is our two-bedroom guesthouse and can accommodate up to 5 guests. One bedroom has a queen bed, and the other bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. There is a full kitchen with a dining area. The living room has a fireplace, and a sleep sofa. The one bathroom is large and has a walk-in shower. This Casita can accommodate a wheelchair. This is the only Casita suitable for children age 5 and younger. Casita de los Arboles and Casita de las Flores are one-bedroom guesthouses, accommodating up to 3 people including children age 6 and older. Their bedrooms have a queen bed and a twin bed. These guesthouses have one bathroom with a combination tub/shower (accessible through the bedroom), a separate living room/dining area with full kitchen and kiva fireplace, and porch. Casita de los Animalitos and Casita de los Pájaros are also one-bedroom guesthouses and can accommodate up to 3 people including children age 6 and older. The bedrooms have a queen bed, and the living rooms have a full-size sleep sofa. These guesthouses have one bathroom with a combination tub/shower (accessible through the bedroom), a separate living room/dining room with full kitchen and kiva fireplace, and porch. All of our casitas have a porch, picnic table, their own Weber charcoal grill, and a chimenea. We always have plenty of firewood on hand, as well as charcoal and starter for the grill. There are 2 gas bbq grills on the property as well. Casita kitchens are stocked for breakfast with cereals, orange juice, 2% milk, bagels, English muffins, as well as coffee and tea. In each kitchen our guests will also find an assortment of condiments and spices (including salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, herbs and spices). All this is supplied with no additional charge. Silver City has several supermarkets and a food co-op in the Historic Downtown area. There is an assortment of restaurants in Silver City, Glenwood, and Alma, from fast-food to Mexican to fine cuisine, in all price ranges. Each Casita has its own picnic table and bbq grill (charcoal and starter supplied!), and there are two gas bbq grills on the property. We have restaurant-quality chicken breasts and thighs and restaurant-quality wrangler steaks available for barbecue (call ahead and we can defrost them for your arrival). There are high-quality towels and linens in each Casita, along with hair dryers, irons, and clock-radios, and towels and robes for the hot tub (hot tub use for adults only). The kitchens are fully equipped, with dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, mixing bowls, cooking and baking utensils, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, and range/oven. There are no televisions here to intrude on the amazing quiet of our beautiful location. Instead you'll find games, cards, books, magazines, and a star chart in the bookcase in your Casita. Wireless high-speed internet access is available in each Casita. Your cell phone will not work at the Casitas, but Skype and Facetime will. Better yet: enable WiFi Calling in your newer smartphone's settings and you can receive cell calls over wifi. We want to be certain you make the most of your vacation in Southwestern New Mexico, so we have prepared extensive information on all that is available for you while you are here. This information, as well as a large selection of books on the area and its natural environment, is available in each Casita. We are usually always available to answer any questions you may have about the area and its many attractions and activities, as well as to help you find activities that suit your particular interests and abilities, and provide maps if needed. If there is something specific in which you are interested, please enquire about it when you make your reservation. Each Casita has a spotting scope for guests interested in exploring the brilliant, clear night-time skies or watching the wildlife that is all around us. You'll find two star charts in your Casita, one of which glows in the dark! We have pads and electricity available in an area a very short walk from the Casitas (and away from any lighting) for guests who bring their own telescope.
Casitas de Gila Guesthouses are available for stays of one night to a month or longer. We are open year 'round. Continental breakfast foods are provided for the first four nights of your stay. We are a professionally-run accommodation provider, in business since 1999. We are Inspected and Approved members of the New Mexico Bed and Breakfast Association, as well as members of the Silver City/Grant County Chamber of Commerce, Silver City Main Street, Mimbres Region Arts Council, and the Association of Lodging Professionals. Gila, New Mexico, at 4,800 feet elevation, has a mild, gentle climate all year. It's usually not too warm on summer days, nor is it too cold on winter days; nighttime temperatures are generally at least 30° lower than daytime temperatures. The sun shines here, on average, about 90% of the year. Winter is a wonderful time to vacation in our part of the world, especially for those interested in daytime outdoor activities and/or night sky viewing. For Summer guests, thunderstorms and monsoonal downpours are exciting and beautiful events, and you might even get to see a brief flash-flood on Bear Creek and a double rainbow over Turtle Rock!
