Silver City is located in southwestern New Mexico, near the Arizona border. Casitas de Gila Guesthouses is about 40 minutes from Silver City, halfway between Silver City and Glenwood, on the western side of the Gila National Forest and the Gila Wilderness.

The drive to the Gila Cliff Dwellings from Casitas de Gila takes about 2 hours. The drive winds through the Gila Wilderness with a number of scenic overlooks. It is a wonderful and popular day trip for Casitas de Gila guests, and an opportunity to see the Gila Wilderness without having to hike in.
The Catwalk National Recreation Area is located in Glenwood, about 45 minutes north of the Casitas. The road to Mogollon Ghost Town is located 5 miles north of Glenwood, and then a short drive to the ghost town.
The Gila Wilderness is the first designated wilderness area in the United States (established in 1924). It features rugged mountains, deep canyons, and extensive trail systems with no roads or modern development.
Yes! The area offers over 1,500 miles of trails ranging from easy walks to challenging backcountry routes. Many trails are uncrowded, even during peak travel seasons. Casitas de Gila has 7 miles of hiking trails on its property. See our Hiking page.
