Frequently Asked Questions ABOUT THE PROPERTY & ACCOMMODATIONS What is Casitas de Gila? Casitas de Gila is a group of five private Southwestern adobe-style guesthouses set on a 265-acre nature preserve near Silver City, New Mexico. Each casita features a fully-equipped kitchen, living area, separate bedroom, and traditional décor, with high desert and mountain views. Where are the Casitas located? We are located about 30 miles northwest of Silver City and 4 miles from the small community of Gila. The setting is peaceful, with dark night skies and direct access to scenic trails. What types of Casitas are available? We offer four 1-bedroom Casitas for up to three guests and one 2-bedroom Casita that accommodates up to six guests (maximum five adults). Every casita includes a fully-equipped kitchen and continental breakfast foods for the first four nights. Are children welcome? Yes. Children are welcome, but age restrictions apply: the 2-bedroom Casita accommodates children age 5 and younger; 1-bedroom casitas can include children age 6 and older. Children under 18 must always be with an adult on the property.
RESERVATIONS & POLICIES How do I make a reservation? Reservations ae taken by phone at 575-535-4455. We enjoy speaking with guests and can answer any questions when you call. Please check our Availability Calendar. What are the rates? Rates vary by stay length. Generally, a 2 or 3 night stay in a 1-bedroom Casita is $170 per night. State and county taxes are additional. See our Rates page for complete information. Is there a minimum stay requirement? Holiday periods may require minimum stays. We reserve the right to require a longer stay during high-demand holiday weekends. What is the cancellation policy? The cancellation policy varies dependong in non-holiday periods or holiday periods. Complete information can be found on our Rates and Policies page. What are the check-in and check-out times? Check-in is between 3 to 6 PM; check-out is by 10 AM. Early arrival or late departure may be accommodated with advance notice.
AMENITIES & PROPERTY FEATURES Are pets allowed? No. We are unable to accommodate pets out of consideration for guests with allergies. Can I fly a drone on the property? To protect wildlife and bird habitat, drones are not permitted at Casitas de Gila Guesthouses. Is parking or EV charging available? There is parking at every Casita. One casita supports EV/plug-in hybrid charging (110v outlet) by advance request, and there is a $5 per night electricity charge. Is breakfast included? Continental breakfast foods are provided, enough for the first four nights of every stay. Is there heating and air conditioning? Each Casita has radiant in-floor heat and a seasonal fireplace. There is no air conditioning due to the cooler summer nights and the super-insulated construction of the buildings. There are ceiling fans and personal fans. Are there outdoor spaces? Yes. Guests can enjoy private patios, shared outdoor areas, and scenic views of the surrounding high desert landscape. Is the property accessible year-round? Yes. Casitas de Gila is open year-round, with each season offering unique experiences, from spring wildflowers to summer monsoon rains to winter stargazing.
GROUP & SPECIAL BOOKING INFO Do you accept group reservations? We may accept group reservations, depending on the time of year. Due to the tranquil setting and proximity of the casitas to each other, groups requiring three or four Casitas may be required to rent all five Casitas. LOCAL AREA & EXPERIENCES What activities are nearby? Explore the Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness, Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, Catwalk National Recreation Trail, hiking, birding, stargazing, horseback riding, rockhounding. Silver City offers dining, galleries, museums, and cultural attractions, all withing driving distance. See our Activities page for more information. Is Casitas de Gila good for stargazing? Absolutely! The area's dark skies and minimal light pollution make it excellent for stargazing and astrophotography. The skies at Casitas de Gila Guesthouses are Bortle Class 1 darkness.
